University of Florida

The University of Florida (UF) is a major, public, comprehensive, land-grant, research university. It was founded in 1853 and is based in Gainesville, Florida. UF is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in academic excellence, both on campus and online. Ranked in the top 20 of Public Universities. University of Florida has a long history of established programs in international education, research and service.

It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 33,720, with a gender distribution of 45 percent male students and 55 percent female students, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 2,000 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. University of Florida's ranking in the 2016 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, 47. The student-faculty ratio at University of Florida is 21:1, and the school has 49.1 percent of its classes with fewer than 20 students. The most popular majors at University of Florida include: Social Sciences; Engineering; Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Biological and Biomedical Sciences; and Communication, Journalism, and Related Programs. The average freshman retention rate, an indicator of student satisfaction, is 95.8 percent.Its in-state tuition and fees are $6,313 (2014-15); out-of-state tuition and fees are $28,591 (2014-15).

University of Florida has 23 percent of the students live in college-owned, -operated, or -affiliated housing and 77 percent of students live off campus. University of Florida is part of the NCAA I athletic conference.University of Florida offers a number of student services including nonremedial tutoring, placement service, day care, health service, and health insurance. University of Florida also offers campus safety and security services like 24-hour foot and vehicle patrols, late night transport/escort service, 24-hour emergency telephones, lighted pathways/sidewalks, student patrols, and controlled dormitory access (key, security card, etc). Of the students at University of Florida, 18 percent have cars on campus. Alcohol is permitted for students of legal age at University of Florida.

Together, It is able to contribute over $8 billion to help stimulate one of the strongest state economies in the nation. And through it combined efforts as Gators, it is able to take every dollar invested in UF by the state of Florida and turn it into $15.
