King's College London

King's is one of the oldest and largest colleges of the University of London.King's College London was founded in 1828-9 by a group of eminent politicians, churchmen and others. King's was granted a royal charter by King George IV on 14 August 1829. It is one of the top 20 universities in the world (2015-16 QS international world rankings). King's is research-led and based in the heart of London.

In September 2014, the President and Principal launched King’s Futures, a range of strategic initiatives aimed at further building on our strengths. King’s Futures includes growth in areas such as Business, Science and Technology, improving the student experience, refining our focus on research and innovation and reaching further across the globe to attract students and partners alike. It complements a wide range of strategic initiatives that were already underway.

This focus on new strategic initiatives, combined with our underlying institutional goals, provides the backbone for a refreshed institutional strategy for King’s.This will be further refined into a new institutional vision and strategy over the next 12 months, defining King’s role in helping to understand and overcome some of the world’s great challenges. We expect to publish this vision and strategy in early 2017 and will be working closely with staff, students and external stakeholders between now and then.

King’s has a distinguished reputation in:
- the humanities
- law
- the sciences, including health areas such as psychiatry, medicine, nursing and dentistry
  social sciences, including international affairs.

King’s has influenced many of the advances that shape modern life, such as:
- the discovery of the structure of DNA
- research that led to the development of radio, television, mobile phones and radar
- being the largest centre for the education of healthcare professionals in Europe.

A research-led university based in the heart of London, King’s has over 26,500 students (including nearly 10,400 postgraduates) from almost 150  countries and some 7,000 employees. King's is in the second phase of a £1 billion redevelopment program which is transforming its estate. King’s provides world-class teaching and cutting-edge research. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) King’s was ranked 6th nationally in the ‘power’ ranking, which takes into account both the quality and quantity of research activity, and 7th for quality according to Times Higher Education rankingsEighty-four per cent of research at King’s was deemed ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.The university is in the top seven UK universities for research earnings and has an overall annual income of more than £600 million.

Looking ahead at a world that depends on being better connected, King’s already has the advantage of having disciplines that connect across different cultures, subjects, institutions and geographies.
Not least of king's advantages is their place at the centre of London, a truly international city with close connections to knowledge and influence that enrich university life in practical and inspiring ways.

King's has an outstanding reputation for providing world-class teaching and cutting-edge research.Strong commitment and investment in educational technology. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise for British universities, 23 departments were ranked in the top quartile of British universities; over half of our academic staff work in departments that are in the top 10 per cent in the UK in their field and can thus be classed as world leading.

The college is in the midst of a five-year, £500 million fundraising campaign – World questions | King’s answers – created to address some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity as quickly as feasible. The campaign’s five priority areas are neuroscience and mental health, leadership and society, cancer, global power and children's health. More information about the campaign is available

King's welcomes students with a range of qualifications from all over the world. Where a student has excellent high school results but their qualification is not suitable for direct entry to an undergraduate degree, King’s offers two International Foundation programmes. The minimum A-level undergraduate entry requirement is A*AA–AAB for the majority of programmes, with our BSc Nursing pre-registration programmes requiring BBB. Many programmes will require specific subjects to have been studied to a high grade before entry.

King's has many famous former students and members of staff, including Rosalind Franklin and John Keats.Over the past ten years King’s has improved dramatically and has become one of the world’s leading Universities for both education and research.
